SUSSEX COUNTY BADMINTON
Dear Players,
Forthcoming season 2010 /2011
We are writing to update you with developments that have taken place since the end of last season and future plans for the Senior County Badminton Squad. The Management Committee has charged us to run three County senior teams in the forthcoming season. We hope that this will provide opportunities for players who wish to continue to represent their county – both the established and experienced players, as well as the up and coming younger players.
In August and September, we are running a series of open coaching sessions at Portslade Sports Centre, to boost fitness for the start of the season and to give players a sample of how the squad training sessions will operate. The coach for these will be Karen Chapman and the dates and times are as follows:
Sundays 8 and 22 August 10am – 1pm
Sundays 5, 12 and 19 September 12pm – 3pm
The charge for these sessions will be £6 per session.
Following these sessions, a selection committee will be formed to represent broad based opinions of player performance and will make the team selections based on merit and commitment. The performance and temperament of players during the Sussex Restricted Tournament on 24, 25 and 26 September will also be considered, so please make sure you pick up an entry form at the training sessions. The form will also be available on the Sussex County website, in due course. We are in the process of updating the site to make it a source of reference for players and others who wish to keep track of the County’s progress throughout the season.
We are hoping to encourage more players to join the Sussex County Senior Squad this year, potentially to fill slots in the three teams that we shall be running and also to provide opportunities for player development. When the season starts, the squad coaching sessions will be split into two sections:
Senior Squad: potential members of Teams 1, 2 and 3,
Development Squad: improving players.
We are working hard to set up coaching and match dates across the season based on our expectations of a high level of commitment from all players, so please play your part in encouraging club members to think positively about what they can offer the County and please communicate with us. Specifically, please display the attached form for your members to see.
We have been encouraged by the many offers of support that we have already received to help us fulfil the many and varied responsibilities that are attached to running the Squad and we are excited about working with all players over the coming season. We look forward to seeing you at the coaching sessions in August.
