I would like to start a club

We appreciate the effort involved in starting a club and are here to offer you whatever assistance we can.

We are very fortunate to have a Badminton Development Officer within Sussex who works directly for BADMINTON England, the national governing body. Richard Bagwell, the Officer is one of a number of people within the County who are responsible for the development of the game.

Richard is more than happy to help you with all of the finer points about starting your club and working through the minimum amount of affiliation paperwork.

Starting a new club couldn’t be easier and there are just a few key items that you need to get going:

  1. Some club officers – generally one person can administer a small club, however, as your club develops you might want more help. Typically a club needs a Secretary to manage the affiliation issues and a Treasurer to manage the memberships and affiliations.
  2. Club rules or constitution – this can be as big or as small as you wish. However, if some thought is given at the outset to how you would like your club to run and the types of things you want to achieve it allows anyone who joins an understanding of your objectives.
  3. Club bank account – although not essential, you need a means to collect membership and pay affiliation and other fees. The establishment of a bank account will also enable you later to apply for grant funding to help grow or develop your club.

Please feel free to get in contact with Richard Bagwell who is more than willing to help. He can be reached at richardbagwell@badmintonengland.co.uk or 07725 413874.
